Breast Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year we want people to understand how early detection saves lives. To support early detection of breast cancer, we are sharing the signs and symptoms to look out for and encouraging uptake of screening when offered.
Signs to look for include:
- visible lump on armpit
- a lump in the breast
- dimpled or depressed skin
- swelling of all or part of breast
- nipple changes inversion
- redness and heat
- skin irritation or texture change
- bloody discharge.
Looking out for signs and symptoms of breast cancer can save your life. Make sure you check monthly and know what looks normal for you.
If any of the signs are there go to your GP. It may be nothing, but if it is breast cancer the earlier, it’s diagnosed the better.
Keep an eye out for your breast screening letter if you are between 50 and 71 years old, remember, early detection increases the chances of recovery. Learn more about breast cancer screening.
